I might/will be moving before you ship my physical rewards to me, but I don’t know the address I will be moving to. What should I do?

For now, please enter your current shipping address or an address of a friend or family member who will remain at one location throughout fulfillment. You will be able to change your address through your BackerKit backer survey throughout the campaign—changes made on Kickstarter WILL NOT be passed to us and will not update your shipments. You may need to reach out to us to update the state or country in your address. If this is the case, please update as much of your address as you can and then contact us by opening a ticket at https://support.dragonsteelbooks.com/support/tickets/new to have us update any further needed changes to your shipping address.

Will you confirm my address before each month's shipment?

No. We will only confirm addresses before we send the first shipment in January. If you move, please update your address in your BackerKit backer survey—address updates made through Kickstarter.com are not provided to us and will not update your future shipments. If you have moved states or countries and are unable to updates those fields in your address, please update as much of your address as you can and then contact us by opening a ticket at https://support.dragonsteelbooks.com/support/tickets/new to have us update any remaining changes needed to your shipping address.

Refund policy

Kickstarter (and crowdfunding in general) is designed for backers to be able to pledge a chosen amount of money toward a project. Once pledges are finalized, the money is delivered to the campaign as expected and projects begin to move forward aggressively. Because of this, Kickstarter is not designed to support refunds. All backers have until the end of the campaign to change or cancel their pledged amounts. Any emergency needs for refunds will be addressed individually. If these occur within 14 days of the end of the campaign, we may be able to offer a full refund. After this date, all refunds will be reduced to cover added fees for credit card transactions, Kickstarter and BackerKit fees, and other non refundable costs. Once your rewards have begun shipping, we will be unable to offer any refund.

Why can't I combine multiple boxes into one shipment to save on shipping costs?

Due to the limitations of our warehouse and in order to streamline our fulfillment process, we are unfortunately unable to combine shipments. We realize this comes with a higher cost for our international fans, and we sincerely apologize. We have tried to do everything we can to lower those costs, including setting our flat rate lower than current shipping cost estimates.

Dragonsteel Books is continually evolving, so we may be able to offer more options for our international backers in future campaigns, but cannot change anything for this campaign. In the meantime, we greatly appreciate your support!

When will the physical rewards ship?

We will begin shipping each month’s rewards as early in the month as we are able. All tiers will receive an ebook and appropriate tiers will receive an audiobooks the first day of January, April, July, and October of 2023. Due to the large number of packages and delays in production, premium hardcover books may be delayed, but will be shipped to appropriate backers as early and quickly as possible in each quarter. All “Year of Sanderson” tiers will receive themed swag boxes the remaining eight months of 2023.

When can I download the ebook/audiobook?

You will receive an email around midnight (Mountain Time) the first day of the month with links to access your digital rewards in January, April, July, and October of 2023. You can access these rewards at any time after that point by logging in to your backer survey.

How will I get my ebooks/audiobooks, and what platform can I read them on?

BackerKit will deliver the ebook/audiobook via a direct digital download (DRM-free) as early in the month as we are able in January, April, July, and October of 2023. While it is likely these books will eventually be available on Amazon, Audible, etc., it is too early in the process to speculate on potential sales platforms. As these files will be downloaded directly, they will not be tied to any platform. For more detailed information, please refer to our support article:

What will be included in the themed swag boxes?

Themed swag boxes will contain at least three rewards: one featured item and two or more supporting items, all based on the monthly theme. Some boxes may include a clothing item such as a t-shirt.

If I don’t pledge on Kickstarter can I get the swag boxes or premium hardcovers later?

After the Kickstarter campaign is complete, we will have a pre-order store open through BackerKit for late pledges. This store will be open for a very limited time, and once it is closed there will not be a way to get these books or swag boxes through our campaign. While we expect these books will eventually be available via standard publishing channels, these swag boxes will never be available again.

We often order extra quantities of our rewards to account for loss and damages, and it is possible we may put a small number of individual items from this campaign on our store after everything has been fulfilled. But we cannot guarantee this will be the case, nor which specific items will be available.

Can I add on individual items to my pledge?

Once you have made a pledge on Kickstarter, you will be able to add on all four books in ebook, audiobook, and/or premium hardcover format. You may also add an eight month swag box bundle. Some additional add-ons may be available via BackerKit when you complete your backer survey after the campaign has closed.

How do I gift the ebooks or audiobooks to someone else?

Digital content will be made available via the BackerKit pledge manager. You will receive an emailed link to log in and download your content. The three possible method to gift these digital format books to someone else are as follows:

Sharing your download link and your BackerKit login information. We do not recommend this unless you create a specific login used only for this campaign.

You can download the DRM-free files yourself, and then give them to the intended recipient.

Gift the cost of the pledge to your gift recipient so they can pledge with their own account.

How do I gift the physical items to someone else? Can I purchase add-ons and have them sent to different addresses?

Kickstarter and the BackerKit pledge manager will link one account (and email address) with one shipping address, so this is not possible to do with the same account. However, you can use a different email address to back again and send it to a different shipping address.

If my book or swag items are damaged during shipping, can I get a replacement?

Please check your reward items upon receiving them. If they have any damage, please contact us within two weeks by opening a ticket at https://support.dragonsteelbooks.com/. Please describe the damage and include photos that clearly show what the item is and the full extent of the damage.

Will I be charged customs on the full pledge amount I paid for my tier with each shipment I get from you? (For example, will I be charged customs on my full amount pledged 4 or 12 separate times?)

Each shipment will list the value of the item(s) in the shipment, not the total amount you pledged to the campaign. Any customs fees will be based on that amount. We do not have a breakdown of how and what will be listed on the customs declarations, nor will we be able to provide this information prior to shipment. However, we will work hard to determine the lowest possible fair and legal amounts we can list.

Why isn’t shipping offered to my country? Is there anything I can do to get these items?

We have shipped for many years to fans all over the world. The countries listed are areas where we are comfortable with the pricing and reliability of shipping services. Countries not listed—which we may have shipped to in the past—have been unreliable and have high rates of shipments being damaged, stolen, or lost. If you live in one of these areas, we do not want to risk your valuable books and rewards, and so we cannot in good conscience offer shipping to your country. There are companies who offer mail forwarding services, which might be a solution if you want to receive physical rewards and live in a country we do not ship to. These companies allow you to set up a US address and then forward your shipments to you. We do not endorse or recommend any specific service and cannot take responsibility for any damage to or loss of your rewards after delivery to the shipping address you provide. If any damage has occurred, we must be notified (with included pictures of the damage) within two weeks of delivery to the initial address you provide.

If I pledge to back a specific tier, but later change my mind and wish to back a different tier, can I make that change?

Yes! You have until our campaign ends to modify your pledge level. After the campaign ends, you will have the option to change or upgrade your pledge through the BackerKit pledge manager when you complete your backer survey, and pay the difference in pledge amounts. Please be aware that once your Kickstarter pledge has been charged, we will be unable to offer a refund if you wish to choose a lower priced tier. Please be certain of your choice before the end of the Kickstarter campaign!

When will I be charged for my pledge?

When the Kickstarter campaign ends, Kickstarter will charge you for your pledged amount. If there are any problems with your payment method, Kickstarter will reach out to you to get the issue corrected and your payment charged. You will usually have only a short period of time to correct any issues, so please be certain to watch out for and respond promptly to any such communications. All pledges made via the BackerKit pre-order store—or any upgrades or add-ons to your Kickstarter pledge that are chosen via your backer survey after the campaign ends—will be charged through BackerKit at checkout.

Yes. Any physical add-ons will ship separately from your rewards, and will therefore be charged additional shipping.

Will these books be available in languages other than English?

All books purchased through this Kickstarter will be published in English. We anticipate that contracts for translation and publication in foreign languages will eventually be announced and made available for purchase through traditional channels, but we cannot offer a timeline of when these versions may be available.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
